Voice over WLAN in Healthcare
Wireless telephone systems that operate
over Wi-Fi networks and integrate with a healthcare organization's existing
telephone system and/or nursecall system provide anywhere, anytime communication access,
increasing patient care, caregiver efficiency and patient throughput.
Wireless telephones operate as client
devices on Wi-Fi networks utilizing the IEEE 802.11 global standards,
allowing converged mobile voice and data applications on a single
wireless infrastructure. A quality-of-service (QoS) mechanism, is
employed on the wireless LAN to ensure excellent voice quality with
minimal impact on data throughput.
A WLAN that provides network
connectivity to network resources is far different from one that
supports voice. Voice over wireless LAN (VoWLAN) is one of the
most demanding applications for a WLAN, and designs must assure high
availability, high capacity, low latency and sufficient access point
coverage cell overlap to support the application.
Azure's unparalleled experience in
designing WLANs that support mission-critical applications such as voice
and location services makes it the perfect partner for designing a WLAN
that will support telephony over the WLAN.
