Fixed Mobile Convergence
Fixed mobile convergence (FMC) solutions
extend deskphone capabilities to a mobile phone and allowing
users to seamlessly roam between cellular and in-building wireless
networks.
Healthcare institutions can
cost-effectively provide a common mobile communications solution to
doctors, nurses, and staff that works seamlessly over both WiFi and
cellular networks on a single mobile phone, simplifying
communications and enhancing responsiveness. FMC makes healthcare
workers and IT staff continuously accessible by a single phone number
and device, regardless of location, even when they roam across campuses
or travel to and from medical office buildings.
Standard PBX features like call transfer,
call waiting, extension dialing and call conferencing are supported
regardless of wireless network connection; users hace access to all PBX
features regardless of their physical location.
For example, when a physician places a
call from within the hospital, his device is connected via enterprise
wireless LAN. When that physician leaves the hospital, he will likely
find the WLAN service is no longer available. Rather than drop the call,
the FMC solution recognizes that the physician’s device is moving out of
range, and it seamlessly connects the call over the cellular network. If
the call continues, and the physician finds himself back in range of an
accessible WLAN network, his call will automatically roam back to the
WLAN.
FMC will always seek the most optimal
network connection (cellular or WLAN). This task is done automatically
and seamlessly, allowing the physician to focus on patient care rather
than worry about dropping a call and changing devices. FMC also
helps healthcare organizations Center save money by reducing dependence
on carrier services.
Single business number reach also allows
healthcare organizations to leverage the advantages of a mobilized
workforce without compromising IT control that has been historically
been provided through the PBX or IPBX. |
